SEERAD works closely with Forestry Commission Scotland which serves as the Executive's forestry department, helping to integrate the development of its work with the wider policies of the Executive.
Forestry Commission Scotland also manages the 620,000 hectares of national forests distributed throughout Scotland. The Head of the Department sits on the Forestry Commission's National Committee for Scotland, and the Director of Forestry Commission Scotland sits on the Departmental Management Board, so encouraging greater integration of the Executive's rural land use policies.
In support of these aims the department sponsors and works through Scottish Natural Heritage - the Executive's statutory adviser on natural heritage and nature conservation matters.
